WOW ... Portland, Oregon is the place to be if you want to celebrate what a culture of peace looks like for a cross-section of the community!
The Peace Bubble Festival on Saturday, August 16th included an array of peace loving artists and performers including belly dancers (as seen above), bubble blowers, storytellers, videographers, jewelry makers, paperdoll makers, social activists, labyrinth organizers, water sliders, Harry Potter lovers, local members of the GLBT community and a whole host of music lovers ... PLUS the Peace Bubble crew including a special appearance by the talented Fred Hartshorn, keyboard/saxaphone player from Tucson, Arizona.
Peace Bubble crew members Jerry Leggett and Patsy Ferrell led two ninty-minute workshops, "I Saw The Face of Peace From an Aluminum Bubble" and "i-Peace: Exploring Peace Technology for the 21st Century." An evening concert drew a crowd of exhibitor and music lovers despite temperatures that soared above 100 degrees!
On Sunday, Jerry spoke a gathering of local UCC folk and performed numerous Beatle tunes; he made a presentation to Camie Pugsley, organizer of the Portland Peace Bubble Festival, recognizing her dedicated six-month effort to make the weekend happen.
Camie involved several dozen local volunteers over the weekend and was able to get a grant from a local college to help fund expenses of the event.
Patsy's inspiring photos and video highlights will be released on Thursday morning of this week ... in the meantime there are a few teaser photos under Multimedia - Photos - Portland.
We are resting by the Columbia River for a few days while we edit video and photos and write our thoughts about this amazing two day experience.
Thanks again to all the folks in Portland who joined the Peace Bubble Cafe in inspiring a culture of peace.
Visit us again on Thursday!
Peace from the road,
Jerry and Patsy |
